Terms of Service

The terms for your Pippa account.

Last updated: 2 July 2026 · version 1.0 (effective on publication)

These terms cover the Pippa app and your Pippa account. They apply from the moment you create an account. The pippa.tax website has its own shorter Terms of Use for visitors; if you have an account, these Terms of Service govern. Some features described here (for example filing with HMRC and paid subscriptions) arrive when the app launches or shortly after; where that matters we say so. We have tried to write these terms in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at support@pippa.tax.

1. Who we are and what these terms are

"Pippa", "we" or "us" is Pippa Money Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 17189960), registered office Suite RA01, 195-197 Wood Street, London E17 3NU. Contact: support@pippa.tax.

These terms are a contract between you and Pippa Money Ltd. By creating an account you agree to them. Our Privacy Notice (pippa.tax/privacy) explains how we handle your data; it is part of the picture but is not a contract term you have to negotiate, and you have the rights in it regardless.

2. The short version

3. Who can use Pippa

You must be 18 or over, a UK resident, and using Pippa for your own UK tax affairs as a sole trader, landlord, or both. Pippa is offered in the UK only.

You must be able to enter a contract and give us accurate information. One account per person.

If someone helps you with your tax, you remain responsible for your account and your filings.

4. Your account

You sign in with an email one-time passcode, or with a supported sign-in provider (such as Google or Apple) when we make one available. Keep your email account and sign-in method secure; anyone who controls them can access your Pippa account. Tell us at support@pippa.tax straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account.

Give us accurate information during onboarding and keep it up to date. Your tax profile (work type, residency and similar) drives how Pippa treats your figures, so errors there flow through to your tax.

We may need to verify who you are before acting on account requests that affect your data; we will tell you what we need at the time.

5. What Pippa does, and does not do

Pippa does: retrieve your bank transactions through Open Banking with your consent; suggest tax categorisations for them (with help from AI); let you review, correct and approve everything; calculate estimates of your income, expenses and tax; prepare your quarterly MTD updates and annual figures; and, when the filing feature launches, submit the figures you have approved to HMRC.

Pippa does not: give tax, legal, accounting or financial advice; guarantee a tax outcome; or make decisions for you. Estimates are presented with deliberate uncertainty ("we think", "up to") until you have reviewed the underlying figures. For advice about your specific situation, speak to a qualified accountant or HMRC.

Pippa is not a bank, does not hold your money, cannot move your money, and never sees your card details. The Open Banking access is read-only.

Some features described in the app or on the website are rolled out gradually (for example HMRC filing and paid subscriptions). Where a feature is not yet available to you, the app will say so.

6. The Open Banking connection (the regulated service)

Pippa uses Finexer, which is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Regulations 2017, firm reference number 925695, as an Authorised Payment Institution to provide account information services and payment initiation services.

Pippa provides the account information service as an agent of Finexer Ltd. Pippa itself is not FCA-authorised; the regulated service is Finexer's.

For that regulated service, sections 1 to 4, 6, 7 and 8 of the Finexer Terms and Conditions (Definitions; Scope; Our services; Using the services; Security; Disputes and incorrect transactions; Your liability), as published by Finexer at finexer.com/legal/terms and as Finexer updates them from time to time, are incorporated into these terms and apply to you as if you were a direct customer of Finexer. In respect of the other sections of Finexer's terms, we operate your account on similar terms, as set out in this document. If these terms and the incorporated Finexer sections conflict about the regulated service, the Finexer sections win.

The incorporated sections are Finexer's terms and only Finexer can change them. If Finexer materially changes them, we will tell you by email or in the app, in the same way as section 15.

You connect a bank by authenticating directly with your bank and approving exactly what is shared. We retrieve up to 24 months of transaction history so we can prepare your tax for the current or previous tax year, and keep it up to date while connected.

You can disconnect a bank at any time in the app. Disconnecting revokes the consent with your bank immediately and stops all further retrieval. Transactions already used for your tax records are kept for the legal retention period (section 11 of the Privacy Notice).

Open Banking consents expire periodically under banking rules; the app will ask you to reconfirm. If you do not, retrieval simply stops.

7. You own the figures

Nothing is filed with HMRC without your review and approval. Before any submission you will be shown the figures and asked to confirm they are complete and correct to the best of your knowledge. That declaration is yours, as it would be on a paper return.

You are responsible for: the accuracy and completeness of the information you give us (including onboarding answers, uploads, and corrections); reviewing suggested categorisations before relying on them; and your own tax deadlines and payments. Pippa shows deadlines and sends reminders where it can, but HMRC's obligations sit with you.

We are responsible for Pippa working as described: retrieving what you connected, implementing HMRC's tax rules and rates for the features we offer and calculating your figures in line with them, filing what you approved (once filing launches), and doing all of it with reasonable care and skill (section 13).

Using Pippa does not change what you owe HMRC. If a figure looks wrong, correct it or contact us before approving it.

8. Acceptable use

Use Pippa honestly and lawfully. You must not:

We may suspend or restrict an account while we investigate suspected misuse (section 12).

9. Subscriptions and payment

Parts of Pippa will become paid features. The price, what it includes, and the billing period are always shown before you pay. Nothing is charged silently. If a price is ever displayed incorrectly because of an obvious error, we may cancel the affected purchase before providing the paid service and refund anything you paid.

When paid subscriptions launch, payments will be taken by Stripe (card payments) or through Apple or Google Play in-app purchase; they will handle your card details, not us. App-store purchases are also subject to the relevant store's terms, and cancellation and refunds for those purchases are handled through the store.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel. We will remind you by email before each renewal (and at least 14 days before any annual renewal). You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current period; you keep access until then. We will give you at least 30 days' notice, by email or in the app, before any price increase takes effect, and you can cancel before it does.

Cooling-off: when you buy a subscription directly from us (card via Stripe) you have a 14-day statutory cancellation right, running from the day you buy. To cancel within the 14 days, tell us in a clear statement: email support@pippa.tax or use the cancel option in the app. You can use the model cancellation form we make available with your purchase confirmation, but you do not have to. If you asked for the service to start straight away and then cancel within the 14 days, you pay proportionately for the period supplied and we refund the rest. For purchases made through Apple or Google Play, the store is the seller for payment purposes and your cancellation and refund rights are exercised through the store's refund process; your statutory rights are the same.

If a payment fails, we will tell you and retry; if it remains unpaid, paid features may be suspended. We never withhold your data for non-payment; export and account closure remain available.

10. Your content and our software

Your data stays yours. Receipts, documents, transactions and figures are your information; you give us permission to process them solely to provide the service, as described in the Privacy Notice.

The Pippa software, brand, design and content are owned by Pippa Money Ltd or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for your own tax affairs while you have an account. You may not copy, modify or redistribute the software.

Feedback you send us can be used to improve Pippa without obligation to you.

11. Leaving Pippa

You can export your data and close your account at any time, in the app where the option is shown, or by emailing support@pippa.tax and we will do it for you. There is no exit fee and no friction designed to keep you. Export is provided in a commonly used, machine-readable format (such as CSV) and includes your transactions, categorisations, receipts and approved figures.

When you close your account we schedule deletion: your data is deleted within 30 days. If you change your mind, contact us straight away and we will restore your account if deletion has not yet run. What we keep beyond that are the tax records we are legally required to retain, kept for the statutory period described in the Privacy Notice (section 11) with your identifiers removed from active systems; our Data Retention & Deletion Policy explains how.

If you close your account part-way through a paid period bought directly from us, we will refund the unused part pro-rata (or you can keep access until the period ends, then close). Closing your Pippa account does not automatically cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google Play; cancel it in the store, and we will remind you of this when you close.

After closure you can still ask us for a copy of the tax records we are required to retain: email support@pippa.tax and we will provide them once we have verified your identity, for as long as we still hold them.

If you die or lose the capacity to manage your affairs, your personal representative or attorney can contact support@pippa.tax; once we have verified their authority (for example a grant of probate or power of attorney) we will let them export your tax records and close your account, and we will stop any further subscription charges taken by us.

Bank connections are revoked on closure. Anything you filed with HMRC remains filed; closing your account does not undo submissions.

12. When we can suspend or end your account

We can suspend or restrict your account, or end this agreement, if:

If we suspend or restrict your account, we will tell you and explain why within 2 working days, unless the law prevents us, and we aim to complete any investigation within 30 days. You can challenge a suspension through section 14 (complaints). Data export remains available during a suspension unless the law requires otherwise, and we will not charge subscription fees for any period in which we have suspended your account.

If we end your account for any reason other than your serious breach of these terms, we will refund the unused part of any period you paid for directly with us (store purchases are refunded through the store's process). The retention and export commitments in section 11 still apply whenever your account ends, subject to any legal restrictions.

13. Our responsibility to you

We provide Pippa with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. If we do not, we will put it right where we reasonably can, and we are responsible for foreseeable loss we cause by breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

We are not responsible for: losses caused by information you gave us being wrong or incomplete; figures you reviewed and approved where the mistake was in information you gave us or changes you made yourself; missed deadlines where the delay was not caused by us; your bank's or HMRC's own services and outages; or events genuinely outside our reasonable control. Approving a figure does not make you responsible for errors in our calculations, categorisation logic or software; those remain ours.

HMRC interest and penalties follow from your tax position. But where a filing is wrong because of an error in our software or calculations, we will correct or amend the filing with HMRC at no cost to you, and we remain responsible under this section for interest or penalties you would not have incurred but for our failure to use reasonable care and skill; tell us promptly once you become aware of the error.

Pippa depends on third parties (your bank, Finexer, HMRC, our hosting providers). We choose and monitor them carefully, but no online service can promise to be available 100% of the time. We plan maintenance outside busy periods and avoid risky changes close to filing deadlines.

14. Complaints

Tell us anything is wrong at support@pippa.tax (or privacy@pippa.tax for data-protection matters), in the app, or by post to the registered office. Complaining is free and never affects your service.

We acknowledge complaints within 3 working days and aim to give you a full answer within 15 business days; complex cases can take longer, never more than 8 weeks, and we will keep you updated.

Complaints about the regulated account information service are forwarded to Finexer within 2 business days; as the FCA-authorised provider, Finexer issues the final response for that service, within the payment-services timelines (normally 15 business days, 35 in exceptional cases). If you are not satisfied with Finexer's final response, or you have not received one within those timelines, you may be able to refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service (financial-ombudsman.org.uk), free of charge.

Data-protection complaints can also go to the ICO (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint), though we would welcome the chance to fix things first.

15. Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the service or the law changes. For material changes we will give you at least 14 days' notice by email or in the app before they take effect; if you do not agree, you can close your account before they do. The incorporated Finexer sections (section 6) are Finexer's terms and only Finexer can change them; when Finexer does, we will pass the notice on to you in the same way. The "Last updated" line above always tells you the current version. Changes needed for legal or regulatory reasons may take effect sooner if the law requires.

16. General

These terms (with the incorporated Finexer sections and the documents they reference) set out the agreement between us about the service. They do not exclude our responsibility for anything we told you before you signed up, and nothing in them limits your legal rights in respect of statements we have made.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.

You may not transfer this agreement to someone else. We may transfer it to a successor of our business, on notice, provided your rights are not reduced.

Finexer Ltd may rely on and enforce the provisions of section 6 (Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999). We and you may vary or end these terms, including section 6, without Finexer's consent (though we will notify Finexer of changes as our agreement with them requires). Otherwise, no one but you and us has rights under these terms.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you also benefit from any mandatory consumer protections of the law of the part of the UK where you live, and nothing in this section takes those away. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts.
