No jargon, no fluff. The MTD ITSA timeline, the new rules, what counts as deductible, what doesn't, written by people who actually have to do this themselves.
It’s not a full tax return. It’s a summary of income and expenses for the three-month period. Pippa builds it as you go, so by the time the deadline arrives it’s already done.
If you were over the threshold for 2024/25, the mandate already applies to you: it started 6 April 2026. The HMRC sign-up form is here. Once signed up, you’ll need recognised software to file. (That’s us.)
HMRC’s new points-based penalty system. Quarterly filers earn one point per missed update. At four points you’re at a £200 financial penalty, and each subsequent miss is another £200. (Note: HMRC has waived points for the first four quarterly updates of MTD’s April 2026 launch year.) Deadlines are fixed, and Pippa reminds you 7, 3, and 1 day out.
Since April 2026, you can’t file MTD ITSA in any other way. HMRC keeps an official list of approved software. Pippa is currently in the process of being added. Listing pending.
"Wholly and exclusively for business": what HMRC actually means, with examples. Plus the home-office percentage, capital allowances on gear, and AMAP mileage rates that everyone gets wrong.
If you have rental income above £50,000 from April 2026 (or combined with self-employment), you’re in MTD. Mortgage interest, repairs, agent fees, allowances: what’s claimable, and where Pippa fits in.
